چکیده

Since the original observations of Meynet (1) and Barlow and Warner (2) on the occurrence of subcutaneous nodules in rheumatic fever, numerous studies on these lesions have appeared. I t is now well recognized that subcutaneous nodules are a frequent manifestation of the disease rheumatic fever and that these lesions present a highly characteristic histological structure. Occasional reference (3) has also been made to the presence of subcutaneous nodules in rheumatoid arthritis but, until recent years, detailed pathological descriptions of the lesions in this disease have not been presented. In the last few years, however, communications have appeared (4-7), which have shown that subcutaneous nodules are of not infrequent occurrence in rheumatoid arthritis and that these lesions also possess a highly characteristic histological structure. These observations have led to a comparative study of the nodules in the two diseases and to a consideration of the relationship between the clinical entities, rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis (3). In the present communication there is presented a detailed study of the subcutaneous nodules in the two diseases. This study has

A Comparative Study of Subcutaneous Nodules in Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatoid Arthritis

The foregoing comparative study on the subcutaneous nodules in rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis is presented as part of an investigation which has been conducted in this clinic on the relationship of the two clinical entities, rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis. It is believed that the present study has shown that these lesions are highly characteristic of the two diseases and tha...

Necrobiotic nodules of rheumatoid arthritis type with lipoid deposition.

The incidence and structure of subcutaneous nodules in rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis have been the subject of research for many years. In 1937 Collins published a paper on the subcutaneous nodule in rheumatoid arthritis, and in 1939 he reviewed in these Annals some of the work on the pathology of rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis. He mentions the basic pattern of tissue change...

"Pseudorheumatoid" nodules in children.

Subcutaneous nodules which are characterised by central fibrinoid necrosis, surrounded by histiocytes and fibroblasts are traditionally considered to be manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis or rheumatic fever. In recent years, however, cases in which such nodules appeared in otherwise healthy children have been reported. Beatty (1959) reported nine children, aged between eleven days and nine ...

The significance of subcutaneous nodules in rheumatoid arthritis.

The presence of subcutaneous nodules in rheumatic fever is of serious prognostic significance because, as they are pathologically similar to the Aschoff bodies found in the heart, they generally indicate severe cardiac damage and active infection. As a rule nodules appear after the onset of the rheumatic heart lesion. There is, therefore, practically always cardiac involvement in cases where no...

The Nodules and Lymph-Gland Enlargement in Rheumatoid Arthritis: Also a Syndrome of Rheumatoid Arthritis Combined with Multiple Xanthomatous Connective Tissue Infiltrations.

In this paper I shall consider the nodules of rheumatoid arthritis and some of the clinical features of cases in which they occur, including the occasional moderate painless enlargement of superficial lymph glands. Collins (1937) and others have shown that the characteristic subcutaneous nodules consist of foci of fibrinoid degeneration and necrosis, surrounded by a border of tissue reaction, n...
